Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike

Clear Creek Community Theatre (CCCT) is thrilled to announce auditions for our upcoming production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, by Christopher Durang.  Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, CCCT’s production will be performed in April 2025 at the Seabrook Community House and is directed by Michelle Selk.

Setting
A farmhouse in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Not enormous, but comfortable, on a hill, many trees, a barn nearby, a pond in the near distance. There used to be a shed for peacocks, but the peacocks are long gone. Time is set in the present.

  • Rehearsals will held at the CCCT rehearsal space at Webster Presbyterian Church
  • A rehearsal schedule will be distributed following completion of casting.
  • Rehearsals will generally run Monday through Thursday nights from 7:00pm to 10:00pm
  • Additional rehearsals may be added on Sunday nights or Friday nights if necessary.

What to prepare for Auditions:

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. In addition, please prepare the following:

  • Bring a list of your known conflicts during the rehearsal period. The production team
    will make every effort to accommodate conflicts that are disclosed at audition. 
  • Headshots and resumes are appreciated, but not required. You may send them to Michelle prior to your audition at michellelynnselk@gmail.com.
  • There will be an audition form for you to complete when you arrive.

Cast of Characters

All roles are available for casting. We are looking for strong, passionate actors. All ages and ethnicities are encouraged to audition.

  • Vanya: 50s, living in Bucks County. Resigned to his life, more or less, at least compared to Sonia.
  • Sonia: his adopted sister, early 50s, living with him in Bucks County. Discontent, upset, regretful. Does a decent impression of Dame Maggie Smith.
  • Masha: his sister, 50s, glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world.
  • Spike: an aspiring actor, 29 or younger, Masha’s new companion. Sexy, self-absorbed, but otherwise outgoing and friendly. In great physical shape.
  • Nina: lovely, sincere would-be actress, early 20s, visiting her aunt and uncle next door. Starstruck, earnest, and energetic.
  • Cassandra: cleaning lady and soothsayer, any age, any race. In the original production, she was played by an African American actress in her 20s.
